Medical Aesthetician, not just a trendy title.

Hey Everyone, today we’re going to get into something that’s more than just a skin concern, it’s a safety concern.

Everywhere you look these days, there’s a new “Medical Aesthetician” offering services, mostly microneedling and dermaplaning as those are the most accessible trainings with little to NO pre-qualifications. Sounds a little scary, right? Just wait, I have facts that are going to scare your pants off! (or maybe you don’t care about who touches your skin, and that’s 100% your choice).

Saskatchewan is the least regulated esthetics industry in Canada, also SCARY! This means that almost anyone can get training done in any form and then, well, “treat” people. Canada also doesn’t have an esthetics license requirement regulation like our U.S neighbors have, basically giving this industry a free-for-all.

I’m going to say it louder for those in the back…

AN ONLINE ONE-TWO DAY COURSE DOES NOT QUALIFY YOU AS A MEDICAL AESTHETICIAN

So what is a Medical Aesthetician? A Medical Aesthetician is a service provider who has been trained in skin autonomy, biology, chemistry and multiple skin treatments through a credible schooling program. Medical Aestheticians who put in the work for the education pay thousands of dollars for their trainings and spend hundreds of hours studying, learning and training.

Ready for another scary part?

If you are not certified from a valid Medical Aesthetics program you are highly unlikely to be able to be insured. Even with a valid certification it is still hard and you have a LOT of hoops to jump through to become fully insured. Allso it costs thousands of dollars to insure yourself as a Medical Aesthetician.

IMAGINE HAVING SOMEONE PUT THOUSANDS OF MICRO WOUNDS INTO YOUR SKIN DURING A MICRONEEDLING PROCEDURE WHO DOESN’T HOLD A VALID CERTIFICATE/DEGREE AND DOESN’T HAVE INSURANCE?

Talk about a safety hazard for both the aesthetician providing the service as well as the client receiving said service.

Now, this isn’t intended to put down anyone in the industry, it is intended to educate every single person who is looking to become a Medical Aesthetician as well as anyone who is looking to find a Medical Aesthetician to help them reach their #skingoals.

I’ve always been a by-the-book kind of person, as well as someone who pushes for positive change within the industry. We will see more changes and higher safety standards in the coming years, but until then make sure that you are asking questions and making the safest choice for your skin.
